NEWSLETTER – MAY 17-21
RELIGION – We will have a Unit 4 Test on Thursday. Students need to begin reviewing this unit.
READING – We will read The Statue of Liberty. We will work on main idea and vocabulary. There will not be a Selection Test.
ENGLISH – We will continue to study adverbs combining sentences.
SPELLING – The new words are: idea, before, lived, became, and add. We will work on base words and endings and the /oo/ sound in tooth. Homework is due on Thursday. The test is also on Thursday.
MATH – We will work on 2 and 3 digit multiplication.
SCIENCE – The Elsmere Fire Department will be teaching a Fire Safety Program. There will be homework and some of it will be for the parents.
They will treat us to a pizza celebration on Thursday.
We are also having a test on Simple Machines on Thursday. A study guide will be sent home on Monday.
· Thanks to the many parents for chaperoning the field trip. Except for the traffic, everything went very smoothly.
· We still need many helpers for Friday if you are available.
· Students will need to bring in some type of sponge or small rag for cleaning next week. I will also send home hardback books that need to be cleaned and repaired if needed.

NEWSLETTER – MAY 10-14
RELIGION – We will study Catholic beliefs and the Apostles’ Creed. Students will need to study this prayer at home.
READING – We will read Me and Uncle Romie. We will also work on author’s purpose. Students should study vocabulary for this story. The Selection Test will be on Friday morning before our field trip.
ENGLISH – Adverbs will be studied.
SPELLING – The new words are: learned, brought, close, nothing, and though. We will study words with ch, sh, th, and wh. We will also study the suffixes y, ish, ment, and hood. Homework is due on Thursday. Our test will also be on Thursday due to the field trip.
MATH – We will study mixed numbers, and adding and subtracting fractions.
SCIENCE – Simple machines and people in Science will be studied.
SOCIAL STUDIES – We’ll look at immigration and some resulting communities.
· Do not forget to pack a lunch and drink for the field trip on Friday. Students are still required to wear their uniforms.
· We can use plenty of help for Olympic Day if you are available.

RELIGION – We will work on talents and parish ministries. We will also study about Mary.
READING – We will read Jalapeno Bagels. Students should study vocabulary for this story. We will also work on drawing conclusions. The Selection Test is on Friday.
ENGLISH – We will work on adjectives that compare.
SPELLING – The new words are: inside, ago, sad, early, I’ll. We will also work on contractions and continue with vowel sound in ball. Homework is due on Thursday.
MATH – We will work on ordering fractions, equivalent fractions, and parts of a group.
SCIENCE – We will study simple machines.
SOCIAL STUDIES – We will share our celebration posters and learn about Cinco de Mayo.
· Monday is May Crowning at 1:30.
· Thanks for returning all field trip money and permission slips. I’ll send home more information and reminders soon.
· Testing is officially over. The students did a great job working carefully and following directions.
· Olympic Day is May 21. We will need many helpers if you are available.
