NEWSLETTER – MARCH 29-31

RELIGION – We’ll work on Holy Week and Easter.

READING – We’re going to take the Unit Test.

ENGLISH – We’ll work on creative writing.

SPELLING – There are no new words this week.

MATH – We’ll continue with division. Students need to study the multiplication and division facts at home.

SCIENCE – We’ll work on energy.

SOCIAL STUDIES – Unit Test is on Tuesday.


· Conferences are on Tuesday. Report cards must be picked up at the office between 3-5 and 6-7. I will be available in the classroom at those times. Everyone is welcome. If this is not convenient, and you have any questions or concerns just email or send a note to school.
· Testing begins on April 19. It continues until April 29. We will test everyday from 8:45-10:30. Please try to make sure your child is here during those times if at all possible.
· Have a wonderful and relaxing spring break.

NEWSLETTER – MARCH 15-19

RELIGION – The Church is Apostolic. We’ll also learn about St. Patrick.

READING – We’ll read Fly Eagle Fly. We’ll work on plot and theme. Students should study vocabulary for this story. We’ll also begin a Book Sharing Project. Most of the work will be completed in class.

ENGLISH – Prepositions will be studied.

SPELLING – The new words are: true, half, red, fish, and plants. We’ll also work on words that have VCCCV and are divided after the first consonant. Words with silent letters will also be studied. Homework is due on Thursday.

MATH – We’ll divide by 3 and 4. Division rules will be studied. Students need to continue studying the multiplication facts. We’ll switch to the division facts soon. They are usually a little easier.

SCIENCE – We’ll begin the chapter review on Monday. It needs to be completed by Wednesday. The test is on Friday. A study guide was sent home.

SOCIAL STUDIES – We’ll work on reading a flow chart. Students are working on a product that they would like to produce and sell. We’ll also work on raising demand and economic choices.


· Last day to take A.R. tests for this quarter is Friday.
· We’ll pray the Stations on Friday.
· Thanks to the many parents who have volunteered to drive to our field trip in May. More details and a permission slip will be sent home later. No money is needed now.

NEWSLETTER – MARCH 8-12

RELIGION – We will work on the Unit 3 Review. This should be completed by Wednesday. The test is on Thursday.

READING – We will read America’s Champion Swimmer: Gertrude Ederle. We will work on generalizing and fact/opinion. Students should study vocabulary for this story. The Selection Test is on Friday.

ENGLISH – We will continue to work on pronouns and contractions.

SPELLING – The new words are: face, door, cut, done, and group. We will work on compounds and adding suffixes er, or, est, and ist. Homework is due on Thursday.

MATH – We will begin our study of division. We’ll divide by 2 and 5. Students will need to study these facts and continue studying multiplication. The better they know the multiplication facts the easier the division will be.

SCIENCE – We’ll study mass and volume of matter. Our test is scheduled for next Friday, March 19. A study guide will be sent home.

SOCIAL STUDIES – We will study making products and industry.

· A separate note about the field trip is being sent home tomorrow.
· Last day to take A.R. tests for this quarter is March 19.
· The published books have arrived. They will come home soon.
· We don’t have any March birthdays, so if any of the summer birthdays would like to celebrate that would be great.
· Please be sure that your child has a simple snack. Anything that requires a spoon is too messy since we work while we eat.

NEWSLETTER – MARCH 1-5

RELIGION – We will study the Rosary.

READING – We will read Rocks in his Head. We will work on generalizing. The students should study vocabulary words for this story. The Selection Test is on Friday.

ENGLISH – We will work on subject/object and possessive pronouns.

SPELLING – The new words are: upon, family, later, turn, and move. We will work on words with and apostrophe and the prefixes pre-, mid-, over- and out-. Homework is due on Thursday.

MATH – We’ll complete our chapter on geometry. We’ll review on Wednesday. Students will need to complete pgs. 344-345 on Wed. The test is on Thursday. We’ll do some work on probability and then division.

SCIENCE – We will work on the states of matter, atoms, and volume.

SOCIAL STUDIES – We will study the Amish and goods and services. Black History Reports are due on Tuesday. Most students have finished in class, but a few need to complete the picture or final copy at home.


· My contact from the museum needed to change the field trip date. We are now going on May 14 instead of the 7th. I hope this is not a problem for anyone. I will send a paper home in the near future for drivers and chaperones.
· We will celebrate the birthday of Dr. Seuss this week with various activities.
