NEWSLETTER – JAN. 25-29

RELIGION – We will work on the parts of the Mass and grace.

READING – We will read Volcanoes. Students should study vocabulary for this story. We will also work on compare/contrast and author’s purpose. The Selection Test is on Friday.

ENGLISH – We will work on irregular verbs and writing a compare/contrast essay.

SPELLING – The new words are: room, sea, against, top, and turned. We will work on words with silent letters. Homework is due on Thursday.

MATH – We will continue to work on multiplication. Students need to study these facts at home each evening.

SCIENCE – Asteroids, comets, and the seasons will be studied.

SOCIAL STUDIES – We will study the Presidential job and requirements and citizenship. We will have a quiz on government on Friday. A study guide will be sent home.


· Students should have brought home the Star Reading Test results for this quarter. They need to earn 10 pts. again this quarter.

NEWSLETTER – JAN. 19-22

RELIGION – We will work on the order of the Mass

READING – We will continue to work on the whale projects. We will not read a new story this week.

ENGLISH – Irregular verbs will be studied. We’ll also work on winter stories.

SPELLING – The new words are: example, heard, several, change, and answer. We’ll work on homophones and words with wr, kn, mb, gn. Homework is due on Thursday.

MATH – We’ll study multiplication by 7 and 8. Students will need to study facts at home. These take some work and time to master.

SCIENCE – Solar System will be studied.

SOCIAL STUDIES – We’ll study the 3 branches of government.


· We have a Prayer Service on Friday. We are also in charge of planning for the Mass on Friday.
· Report cards will be sent home this week.
· We’ll begin a special program about recognizing and dealing with bullying on Friday. More information will be sent home.

NEWSLETTER – JAN. 11-15

RELIGION – We will study being Catholic and the parts of the Mass.

READING – The Selection Test is on Tuesday. Next we will work on whale research.

ENGLISH – Verbs will be studied. We’ll also work on poetry.

SPELLING – The new words are: young, sun, thing, whole, and near. We’ll work on homophones and suffixes. Homework is due on Thursday.

MATH – We will study multiplication by 4. Chapter 5 Test is on Thursday. Students will have review problems to complete from their books on Wed.

SCIENCE – We will continue our study of weather. The test is on Friday. A study guide was sent home.

SOCIAL STUDIES – We will study Mexico and begin our study of city, state, and federal government.


· A.R. tests may be taken today for the second quarter.
· The A.R. store will be open on Wednesday.

NEWSLETTER – JAN. 4-8

RELIGION – We will study the Feast of the Epiphany and being Catholic.

READING – We will read A Symphony of Whales. Students should study vocabulary for this story. The Selection Test will be Friday.

ENGLISH – We will work on verb tense.

SPELLING – The new words are: sure, knew, it’s, try, and told. We will work on contractions and the suffixces ly, ful, ness, and less. Homework is due on Thursday.

MATH – We will work on multiplication by 1, 0, and 3. We’ll also work on problem solving. Students should study the 0, 1, 2, 3, 5, and 10 tables in multiplication.

SCIENCE – We will continue to study weather. We’ll work on the instruments anemometer and barometer. There will be a test on the Water Cycle and Weather next Friday, Jan. 15. A study guide will be sent home soon.

SOCIAL STUDIES – We will work on a quick discussion of the Revolution and Civil War and communities and their histories.

· The last day to take an A.R. test for this quarter is Jan. 8.
· I wanted to thank everyone for the generous gift card for Christmas. I am truly blessed with a wonderful class and supportive parents. Thanks again and Happy New Year!
·
